About me

I am Tuomas Wäinölä, born in Kauniainen, Finland in 29th december 1976. I’ve been playing guitar professionally since the year 2000 in Finnish groups such as Nylon Beat, Raskasta joulua, Anssi Kela and more recently Marko Hietala’s solo project. I’ve played gigs ranging from musicals to TV to big bands to heavy metal, also recording album tracks and movie scores as a session musician. I’ve been writing music since I first started playing guitar and have recently been composing music for TV, commercials and as a songwriter. I have been collaborating with composers and artistis as a music producer, arranger, orchestrator and mixing engineer.

About music

I do think we live in the Golden age of anything with music and picture. I think of myself as a fan first. I love stories. I love music. I love pictures. I love it when one supports another, becoming one. I love to see something on the screen for the first time and see how it turns out when I add music to it.

Human Being (2011)

“Human Being” is a collection of tunes from all my musical life that far. There are guitar hero type of things and some fusion jazz, but also melodic and moody stuff to go with them. I’m glad this one got made, since it kind of opened up a new musical channel for me.

The Return Of The Hometown Hero

In 2019 I got on with the recording of my second solo album which will be out in 2020. It has an underlying story based on a boy who learns the trade of a sword fighter and embarks on a journey making a living as a freelancer all over the world. It has music written for an orchestra, a jazz trio, an acoustic guitar trio and various rock ensembles. It will also sport a tune with 5 guitar players and 5 horn players, partly a kind of a musical street fight of sorts.

About the film scores I played on

About the music I played on.

Some albums I worked on as a session guitar player.

I played in Paula’s band for 12 years. She’s the ultimate Finnish voice, I think.

This one I’ll always remember as having the most difficult solo ever to play live.

Ahti Paunu is known from his work with the group “Rajaton”, but is also a solo artist.

A long time band mate and a great trumpet player, Tero has a few great solo albums out.

Anssi Kela is one of my favorite Finnish artists, I’ve been in his band for a long time and got to play on his album too.

This is a holiday season classic that I think turned out great. I gave it my best Brian Setzer imitation.

I was hired to play some heavy metal guitar solos on this album.

A Finnish Children’s heavy metal band needed a Nokia inspired guitar solo.

I’m proud to be on one of Aki’s tunes. He is a well respected Finnish songwriter who passed too soon.

Ville is a long time collaborator of mine. He released some great albums in Swedish language.

My appreciation for rhythm guitar is deep, a quest for life really. This is a tune I got to lay down some tracks on with a lovely rhythm section.

Nylon Beat was my first major pop gig as a freelance guitar player. This album is a fond memory of that time.
